Statement of Diversity
"And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
(Genesis 1:27 - NAS77)
The O'Connor Road church of Christ is a very diverse church made up of men and women, young and old, tongues of English and Spanish, and a wide variety of skin tones, races, and cultures as God intended. We are not segregated. We are united.
We are a fully bilingual congregation. The English and Spanish brethren who comprise the church assemble and worship together. The services are conducted in English, but we have a translator who translates in real-time and Spanish speaking brethren and visitors can hear the translation in real-time via a headset. This is done at all of our services.
The eldership of this church presently consists of 3 men. One is of Japanese-American descent, another of both Spanish and Native-American descent, and another Caucasian. Two of the Shepherds are inter-racial couples by worldly standards; though we are all part of the human race created by God to His glory.
There are presently 7 inter-racial couples that are a part of this church. We also have a couple that has fostered and adopted a child of a different race (in addition to other children). We have a few scripturally "blended" families that have taken on children of their own.
We have a good mix of all ages of brethren, ranging from new-born all the way up to a beautiful vibrant young 95-year-old! We have a solid group of young people with ages spanning the school-age spectrum. We have several singles both youth and senior. We only have males and females because that's all God created.
It is a blessing to be a part of a richly diverse group of followers of Jesus Christ. People who believe in one another. People who love one another. (John 13:34-35) People who do not want to be segregated by differences, but united by faith. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
We are striving to be a light in this community in all aspects of the faith. (Matthew 5:14-16) Whether you are visiting the area or live here and are looking for a congregation to be a part of; we hope you will join us and feel welcomed by the love of Christ in our hearts for you and one another; and especially God.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."(Galatians 3:28 - NAS77)
Today is June 27th, 2020. In the United States of America, this year has been fraught with trials. Race relations in America are once again inflamed by present injustices and those from the past which have never fully been dealt with and healed from.
The O'Connor Road church of Christ strives to speak against racism in any form both collectively, and as individual Christians. We seek to not just react to the world around us, but proactively address from the pulpit, in classes, and in publications the sins of prejudice, bias, xenophobia, discrimination, bigotry, and racism (and others like these).
We are not a perfect people nor a perfect church, but we are always striving to grow and become better. (I Thessalonians 4:1) We are striving to teach the next generation to be better than us. We know, that to change the world starts with changing hearts. (Matthew 13:1-23; 15:10-20) It starts with the individual and grows out from there.
We can't control the attitude of every person every where and every church, but we can work together in the study and understanding and application of God's word to better ourselves; and thereby, make the world a better place. We hope you will join us.
