God in the Finite

October 23, 2017

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world." (Heb. 1:1-2) How do I know God? Is it because I had some dream or some feeling in my heart that I would know God? No! I know God, because God revealed Himself to me! God did this at first through the prophets in the Old Testament, but then fully by entering the world in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. In Jesus's day, there was no question about who or what He claimed to be. When Jesus stood on trial before the Sanhedrin Council, he stated in no uncertain terms that he was "the Christ, the Son of God." (Matt. 26:63-64; Mark 14:61-62) His claim to be God was proven when He was raised from the dead. (Acts 26:22) The LORD in Isaiah states this was done to "call [us] in righteousness" (Is. 42:6). God revealed Himself through Jesus so that we might be purified from our sins. "And He [Jesus] is the radiance of His [God's] glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." (Heb. 1:3) Jesus came so we might know God and in knowing God would choose to be saved. (1 Pet. 3:21)
