On Selecting Deacons - 2020
“For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you…” (Titus 1:5)
The role of Titus, as a preacher, was in teaching brethren God’s expectations of qualified elders in selection. He seemingly also had some role in the organization/execution of the process. In the absence of shepherds, a preacher would likely have a lead role in facilitating the selection of Deacons as well, as Timothy was instructed to teach in respect to deacons in I Timothy 3:8-13. Acts 6:1-6 describes a process when the Apostles, as leaders of the church, instructed the local flock to select men to serve for a present need.
Since shepherds were appointed at O’Connor Road a year ago there have been ongoing discussions with men about their qualifications, ability, and willingness to serve. The Shepherds seek to lead the church forward in selecting deacons to serve in this local flock, and to follow the pattern from the authority of scripture which is beyond reproach. In our discussions with the members; likewise, it has been the desire of the church to move forward with that process. (Acts 6:5—”found approval with the whole congregation) The following is the process we seek to follow according to scriptures as a church. (II Timothy 3:16; Colossians 3:17)
This process is being proposed and administered with I Corinthians 14:33 (“for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.”) and Corinthians 14:40 (“But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner.”) in mind. In this manner, we also seek to honor and glorify God.

The Shepherds desire for this to be a peaceful and encouraging process of growth that honors the Lord, His revealed word, and His people. We are thankful for the love and support that this church consistently shows one to another. We have great faith that this will be a process done in a godly manner with love and respect for all. It is up to each individual to act in good faith, with all humility, kindness, truth, and love. The church has worked long and hard to grow spiritually to this point, and the shepherds are confident we, as a church, are ready to take this next step in being what God desires us to be.
