There was a young man in a small rural town who was dying. There was only one thing that would save him - a blood transfusion. He needed it urgently. That day. The only problem was that there was no blood at the blood bank because of a recent emergency that had wiped out the supply. A call went out to friends and family and the community for anyone who could donate blood to save this young man. Many simply ignored the call. “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you…” (Titus 1:5) The role of Titus, as a preacher, was in teaching brethren God’s expectations of qualified elders in selection. He seemingly also had some role in the organization/execution of the process. In December of 2018 we had both a men’s meeting and congregational meeting where we decided we would move forward with the process of selecting elders for this local work.
